My Series: “EMBEDDED”
Artist Statement:
“Embedded” is a photo collage series where I explore how racism is so embedded, that it’s basically imperceptible, in America.
As a Black man, I already wear a veil of double consciousness and this is me visually depicting the veil from my eyes as I encounter white people everyday. Due to so much trauma and years of pain my first thought is that every white person is racist until proven anti. This is sad, but it is nothing but a form of self defense that myself and many Blacks have to use in order to survive. This photo series allows the viewer to feel uncomfortable and not okay as they see this art. The feeling they feel is nothing but a scratch on the surface of what it feels to be Black in America.
